A comprehensive personality Board game Design

Game Design for impact PROJECT

2017 NEW YORK

This is a team project for a joint class of Cornell Tech University and MFA Design for Social Innovation, School of Visual Arts. The class name is Games for Impact. The challenge was to  create a game that is socially impactful, participatory, interactive and dynamic.

Game should be composed with*:

  1. ACTIONS: the actual things players do while playing, the“mechanics” or the verbs of the game

  2. RULES: what players are able to do and how they are allowed to play

  3. GOALS: what players are trying to achieve while playing

  4. OBJECTS: what players interact with during play, the pieces

  5. PLAYSPACES: the defined time and place of play

  6. PLAYERS: what puts the game into motion - there’s no game without players

The game our team created was a comprehensive personality board game that teaches you about yourself and others by comparing you to nine personality traits adapted at the enneagram institute. With a simple yet intricate dynamic of this game you learn other’s emotional responses to situations while also growing empathy along the way. With this game, you will see if you can guess others feelings with your emotional intelligence.

Contents in the box :

  1. Score board X 1

  2. Story card X 27

  3. Emotion card: 9 emotions X 6 sets

  4. Nine Enneagram (Personality card) X 9 types X6 sets

MY ROLE: I collaboratively designed the game rules/system with team members. I also designed the logo and the Personality Chart of this game (Put right side of the box).
